GILLETTE, Wyo. — The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, is expecting a pretty mild weekend for the Gillette community before more seasonal weather picks up later Sunday night.
Saturday will be partly sunny and only slightly breezy, with wind speeds of around 5–13 mph. The rare gust could reach 22 mph. The high today is 48 degrees
This evening’s low will fall to 26 degrees, though winds will fall further to around 7 miles per hour.
Sunday will look quite similar to Saturday, as it is also expected to be partly sunny with a high of 47 degrees. Winds will blow at around 6–10 mph Sunday.
Sunday night, however, should see the return of winter weather in the form of rain and snow sometime before midnight. After 2 a.m., the precipitation will consist exclusively of snow. Winds should also pick up a bit that night as well, but should stay around 20 mph aside from the occasional 30 mph stray gust.
By Monday morning, snow accumulation will be under a half-inch. The snow won’t stop there, though, as Monday could see as much as 1–3 inches of new accumulation. Snow is likely Monday before 11 a.m. but could blow into town as late as 3 p.m.
