GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Dec. 25, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Theft, Dec. 24, Manchester Street, GPD
Officers responded to Manchester Street around 7:35 a.m. to investigate a 60-year-old man’s report of stolen tools, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson. The man said a Milwaukee tool bag containing $1,000 in miscellaneous tools and oil field equipment was taken off the back of his vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
Crash, Dec. 24, Lakeway Road, GPD
A 72-year-old woman was warned for failing to stop at a stop sign after allegedly crashing her 2019 Dodge van into a 41-year-old man operating a 2023 Ford around 10:21 a.m., Wasson said. The crash happened after the woman exited the parking lot of a bank on Lakeway Road, resulting in no injuries and over $1,000 in damage.
Fraud, Dec. 24, American Lane, GPD
Officers responded to American Lane after a 73-year-old man called to report falling victim to a utility scam around 10:35 a.m., Wasson said. The man said his power had been shut off and he searched for Gillette utilities online. The man followed a link that led him to Future Link Solutions and spoke with a man who requested a $300 utility deposit. The man made the payment but his power was not restored. It is believed the man fell victim to fraud, and the investigation is ongoing.
Fraud, Dec. 24, Estes Lane, GPD
Wasson said that a 69-year-old man called the police around 1:35 p.m. to report falling victim to a furniture scam on Facebook. The man said he responded to a furniture ad where the seller requested a $100 Apple pay deposit, which the man paid. He was given an address to pick up the furniture, but no one was there when the man arrived. He then told officers the item was listed for sale again on Facebook Marketplace.
Drugs, Dec. 24, 4-J Road, GPD
Officers arrested a 40-year-old man with active warrants and charged him with drug possession after responding to a drug report at the Waystation around 4:08 p.m., Wasson said. The initial report was made after staff located a syringe and other drug paraphernalia they believed belonged to the 40-year-old. He fled before officers arrived and was located hiding in a shed on 4-J Road. The shed owner granted officers consent to search and they located a pipe containing suspected meth. The man was subsequently taken into custody.
Theft, Dec. 24, North Highway 14-16, GPD
Officers responded to a North Highway 14-16 hotel for a 35-year-old man’s report that someone stole his DoorDash order around 5:59 p.m., Wasson said. The man appeared intoxicated, said his order was taken from outside his door and provided an approximate value of $20. Officers couldn’t view surveillance footage and were unable to locate the order.
DWUI, Dec. 24, Fox Park Avenue, GPD
A 28-year-old man was cited for impaired driving after allegedly overturning his 2013 Subaru on Fox Park Avenue around 9:11 p.m., Wasson said. Officers were notified of the crash by a 36-year-old woman and the 28-year-old admitted to consuming alcohol, though he couldn’t say where he was coming from. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment and officers elected to leave him with a citation. The Wyoming Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.
Crash, Dec. 25, 2nd Street, GPD
Officers cited a 20-year-old man for careless driving after he allegedly crashed his Jeep into a light pole and stop sign near 2nd Street and Richards Avenue around 12:58 a.m., Wasson said. According to the report, the man was driving at 40 mph and ran a stop sign when he lost control. He swerved to avoid hitting a parked car and collided with city property. The damage was estimated at over $4,000, and there were no reported injuries.
Escape, Dec. 25, West Boxelder Road, CCSO
Additional charges could be brought against a 41-year-old woman who reportedly fled from B Pod in the Campbell County Detention Center around 10:31 a.m., Sheriff’s Office Investigations Sgt. Gary Sams said. The woman was found hiding near the pod’s south door and investigators believe she was attempting to escape. The woman allegedly told deputies she needed to speak with another law enforcement agency, which was the excuse she offered for her actions.
Drugs, Dec. 25, Raymond Street, CCSO
Deputies responded to the Volunteers of America facility around 12:13 p.m. to investigate staff reports of finding spice belonging to a 37-year-old man, Sams said. According to the report, the man had a misdemeanor amount of suspected spice and was arrested for his third or subsequent drug possession charge, elevating it to the felony level.
Trespassing, Dec. 25, Country Club Road, GPD
Officers were dispatched to Country Club Road for a 28-year-old woman’s report of a physical altercation with a 53-year-old man around 8:02 p.m., Wasson said. The woman showed them a wrist injury that she claimed came from the 53-year-old man grabbing her arm while trying to get a phone. The man said he was assaulted by the woman and said she tried to get his phone. The man was trespassed from the residence at the woman’s request.
