GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Property destruction, Dec. 20, Camel Drive, GPD
Apartment complex staff members called the police to Camel Drive around 4:36 p.m. to report suspected property destruction, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Someone allegedly damaged two exit signs and a plexiglass fire extinguisher door recently. The damage was estimated at $230, and the investigation is ongoing.
Intoxication, Dec. 20, West 9th Street, GPD
Officers arrested a 33-year-old man for intoxication after he allegedly entered a 51-year-old woman’s home on West 9th Street around 4:36 p.m., Wasson said. The man believed the residence was his and began eating food. When officers arrived, the man did not know where he was and was taken into custody.
DWUI, Dec. 21, South Douglas Highway, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 29-year-old woman for impaired driving following a South Douglas Highway traffic stop around 12:24 a.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The woman was operating a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse and failed to maintain a single travel lane. During the stop, she displayed signs of impairment and was arrested after performing field sobriety tests.
DWUI, Dec. 21, East 4th Street, CCSO
Reynolds said a 27-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving after deputies saw him hit a curb near East 4th Street and South Gurley Avenue around 2:19 a.m. The man was operating a 2011 GMC and failed to maintain his lane. He was taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests.
Property destruction, Dec. 21, Church Avenue, GPD
Wasson said a 60-year-old woman called the police to report a 45-year-old man damaged her vehicle on Church Avenue around 5:13 p.m. According to the report, the woman found the man underneath her car when she was leaving to go to work. He stood up, said she couldn’t drive her car and left. The vehicle was equipped with an interlock device that wouldn’t allow the car to start. Officers found a disconnected wire under the vehicle, which they reconnected. The woman told officers she had allowed the man to stay with her for two days but had asked him to leave the night before. The investigation is ongoing.
Theft, Dec. 21, South Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers responded to a fueling station on South Douglas Highway around 5:34 a.m. after an 18-year-old woman reported a 16-year-old girl assaulted her and stole her dog. The woman had abrasions on the right side of her face from the girl slapping her and told officers the girl took her dog out of her vehicle’s back seat. The 16-year-old girl denied slapping the woman and claimed she had permission to take the dog. She was cited for assault and theft.
Eluding, Dec. 21, East 4th Street, CCSO
Deputies pursued and arrested a 19-year-old man who reportedly fled an attempted traffic stop on East 4th Street around 10:08 p.m., Reynolds said. The man stopped on North Gurley Avenue and was taken into custody without further incident.
Drugs, Dec. 21, Burma Avenue, CCSO
Reynolds said deputies arrested a woman on a warrant and charged her with drug possession after allegedly finding meth in her jacket during a traffic stop on North Gurley Avenue around 10:34 p.m. Dec. 21. Around 1.45 grams of meth were located in an Excedrin bottle in her jacket. A pipe with meth residue was located in her backpack.
Drugs, Dec. 21, Burma Avenue, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 24-year-old woman for drug possession and a 28-year-old man for possessing adulterants following a Dec. 21 traffic stop at Burma Avenue and Westover Road around 11:53 p.m., Reynolds said. During the stop, deputies learned the 28-year-old man had an active arrest warrant and a drug dog indicated on the vehicle. Deputies located several fentanyl pills belonging to the woman and adulterants used to defraud drug tests that belonged to the man.
Crash, Dec. 22, Southern Drive, GPD
Wasson said officers were dispatched to the intersection of Southern Drive and South Garner Lake Road for a report of a two-vehicle collision around 5:26 p.m. A 72-year-old woman in a 2017 Hyundai failed to stop in time to avoid rear-ending a 26-year-old man in a 2015 Chevrolet. A 20-year-old woman who was riding in the Chevrolet was evaluated on the scene for abdominal pain and took herself to the hospital. The 72-year-old woman was cited for following too closely and not having proof of insurance.
