Cowboys prep for Tuesday showdown with South Dakota

LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Cowboys basketball team will continue its road swing on Tuesday with a match-up against South Dakota. The first meeting between the two teams since 2013 is slated for a 6 p.m. start.

Wyoming heads into the contest with a 5–3 record and a 0–1 mark in conference play after falling on the road at Utah State last Wednesday, 70–67.

The Pokes are averaging 73.6 points per game while allowing 72.9. The Pokes shoot 45.5% from the field.

UW’s defense is the third best in the conference, holding opponents to just over 41% from the field. Wyoming also leads the Mountain West Conference in rebounds per game, averaging 41.1.

The Coyotes enter the contest with a 7–4 record after falling on the road at Northern Arizona 95–82 on Saturday. One of the top offenses in the nation, USD posts 87.3 points per game while allowing 78.5. South Dakota shoots 46.5%. The Coyotes average nine 3-pointers per game.

The Cowboys are led in scoring by Obi Agbim’s 18.1 points per game — good for third highest in the conference. He also leads the team with 3.9 assists per game and recorded a career-high 10 at Utah State for his first career double-double.

Jordan Nesbitt adds 11 points per night and leads the conference with 10.8 boards per game. Kobe Newton adds 11 points per contest.

South Dakota is led in scoring by Isaac Bruns, who earns 14.1 points per game while shooting 49% from the field. Chase Forte adds 13.7 points per game and leads the team with 36 assists. Kaleb Stewart adds 10.2 points per game for the season, and has hit 19 three-pointers.
