Gillette to see chance of wintry Sunday over weekend

GILLETTE, Wyo. — A sunny Saturday in Campbell County could be followed by some winter weather on Sunday, the forecast from the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, indicates.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high temperature near 58 degrees. Moderately strong winds are likely to reach speeds of roughly 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph possible.

The evening should bring increasing cloud coverage. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to fall to a low around 36 degrees. Winds should stay fairly constant from earlier in the day, though the NWS in Rapid City reports nighttime wind gusts may reach speeds upwards of 30 mph.

Sunday will begin with a slight chance of rain before 10 a.m., followed by a chance of a wintry mix of rain and snow into the early afternoon and then a 20% chance of scattered snow showers for the rest of the day. Temperatures should reach a high near 45, while winds are expected to reach speeds of up to 35 mph, with gusts of up to 45 mph possible.

The 20% chance of snow is expected to continue at night after 11 p.m., the NWS in Rapid City reports. Forecasts call for a low of around 24 degrees, with windchill values as low as 11.
