Gillette to bask in sunshine, winter warmth before chill, possible snow

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Gillette residents can expect a wild ride weather-wise over the next few days, with unseasonably warm temperatures giving way to a cold front, gusty winds and even a chance of snow by the weekend.

Today, enjoy the sunshine and mild temperatures with a high near 52 degrees. Saturday will be even warmer, with temperatures soaring into the upper 50s, possibly even reaching the low 60s in some areas. This warm spell is thanks to a high-pressure system and downslope flow, making the eastern slopes and foothills of the Black Hills the warmest spots in the region.

A cold front is expected to sweep through the region Sunday, bringing with it gusty winds, a significant drop in temperatures and a chance of rain and snow. The Black Hills are most likely to see snow, with accumulations expected to be light.

While the snow might not be significant, the wind certainly will be. Gusts could reach up to 50 mph on the western plains, making for a blustery start to the week.

The unsettled weather will continue through next week, with cooler temperatures and occasional chances for light precipitation.
