GILLETTE, Wyo. — An annual effort to honor the memories of children who have died with a candle-lighting ceremony will take place this Sunday on South Gillette Avenue.
The ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in the George Amos Memorial Building, 412 S. Gillette Ave., through The Compassionate Friends, a national nonprofit founded to provide support to every family experiencing the death of a child.
According to TCF, the candle-lighting ceremony is part of a worldwide effort that takes place on the second Sunday in December and is believed to be the largest mass candle-lighting event in the world. It is intended to unite family and friends around the globe by lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and grandchildren who left too soon.
The local candle-lighting ceremony will be held by the founders of the local TCF chapter, From the Bighorns to the Black Hills, Dave and Kristina Collins.
