GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Nov. 26, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Blackmail, Nov. 26, East Warlow Drive, GPD
A 58-year-old man on East Warlow Drive called the police at 10:35 a.m. to report being blackmailed for the past year, stating that he had paid an unknown individual thousands of dollars, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The man said the individual threatened to release a photograph of him on the internet if he didn’t pay. Over a year, the man has paid the individual $50,000. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
DWUI, Nov. 26, South Butler Spaeth Road, GPD
Officers responded to a report of a traffic complaint on South Butler Spaeth Road near Country Club Road where a blue Toyota swerved and nearly ran another vehicle off the road around 1:52 p.m., Wasson said. They identified the registered owner as a 19-year-old man and responded to his address on Federal Avenue, where they found the vehicle crashed into the home. The 19-year-old was in a bedroom and initially denied driving, stating he was driven home by a friend. The man, however, matched descriptions in witness statements and was subsequently taken into custody for impaired driving. He was cited for driving without an interlock device, failing to maintain a single lane of travel, and consuming alcohol while under 21.
Disorderly conduct, Nov. 26, South Gillette Avenue, GPD
A 37-year-old woman called the police at 3:04 p.m. after seeing two 13-year-old boys fighting on South Gillette Avenue, Wasson said. One boy left before officers arrived, but the other said the two of them agreed to fight each other. The 13-year-old boy who stayed was cited for fighting in public, and the other will be contacted.
Interference, Nov. 26, Longmont Street, GPD
Officers arrested a 43-year-old man for interference after he refused to leave the inner perimeter of a police operation on Longmont Street around 7:19 p.m., Wasson said. The man reportedly used a light source to illuminate officers in the area while they were apprehending a suspect wanted for sexual assault and kidnapping.
Drugs, Nov. 27, North Gurley Avenue, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 38-year-old man and a 57-year-old man for drug possession following a traffic stop on North Gurley Avenue near East Laramie Street around 1:03 a.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. A police department drug dog reportedly indicated on the vehicle and a deputy located .52 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Neither man would claim possession of the meth, and both were taken into custody.
