GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Nov. 25, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Theft, Nov. 25, Highway 14-16, GPD
A 29-year-old man called the police at 8:51 a.m. to report his 24-year-old fiancée’s ring missing after a recent visit to a bar on Highway 14-16, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The ring had a black onyx stone set in silver and went missing after the 24-year-old left it in the bathroom a few days ago. The investigation is ongoing.
Burglary, Nov. 25, Osborne Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to Osborne Avenue to investigate a reported burglary around 9:53 a.m., Wasson said. A 68-year-old man said someone broke into a vacant home and stole his backpack blower between Nov. 23 and Nov. 25. The blower was valued at $600, and the investigation is ongoing.
Theft, Nov. 25, West 2nd Street, GPD
A 69-year-old woman called the police at 1:16 p.m. after discovering her black Taurus handgun and $600 in cash missing from her vehicle on West 2nd Street, Wasson said. The woman said she left the firearm and money in her 2017 Chevrolet with a window open. The suspects also took a bottle of hydrocodone. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
Agency assist, Nov. 25, 7th Street, GPD
Officers responded to the area of 7th Street and Butler Spaeth Road after city animal control officers reported seeing a vehicle commit traffic violations yesterday afternoon, Wasson said. Officers located the vehicle and contacted the driver, a 24-year-old man. He originally provided a false name, but officers identified him through prior arrest photos and his tattoos. The 24-year-old had an active warrant for violating the terms of his probation and was subsequently taken into custody.
Fraud, Nov. 25, East 5th Street, GPD
Wasson said that a 20-year-old woman called the police at 5:03 p.m. to report being scammed out of $1,315 after responding to an apartment listing on Facebook. The woman said she paid $65 for the application, $500 for a deposit and $750 for the first month’s rent. She tried to receive a refund when the landlord denied her request to see the apartment and realized it was a scam after being told to pay an additional $300. The investigation is ongoing.
