GILLETTE, Wyo. — Gillette should prepare for a week of fluctuating temperatures, gusty winds and a possible dusting of snow as a series of weather systems move through the region.

Today will start with sunny skies and a high near 41 degrees. Southwest winds will pick up throughout the day, gusting as high as 18 mph. Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies with a low around 21 and continued gusty winds, per the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Tuesday will bring more sunshine and a slightly warmer high near 43, but windchill values could dip as low as 16. Winds will shift from the southwest to the north in the afternoon.

The roller coaster continues Wednesday with a high near 33 under mostly sunny skies. However, northwest winds will increase, gusting at up to 21 mph.

Thanksgiving Day will see a high near 30 with partly sunny skies. West winds will shift to the north in the afternoon with gusts of up to 16 mph.

By the weekend, temperatures will dip significantly, falling 10–20 degrees below normal. Friday’s high will be near 32 with a slight chance of snow overnight. Saturday and Sunday will be the coldest days with highs near 22 and 29, respectively, and lows dipping down to 5 degrees.

According to the NWS in Rapid City, a series of “moisture-starved shortwaves” are responsible for this week’s weather patterns. While a few flurries are possible, significant snowfall is not expected. The northern Black Hills may see some upslope action, but precipitation chances remain low overall.
