GILLETTE, Wyo. — A pregnant woman was hospitalized Sunday morning after being struck by a car door while helping another woman during an assault outside a bar, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said.

According to the report, the woman, 24, and others responded to cries for help around 12:25 a.m. Nov. 24. The cries came from a black Jeep parked outside a Highway 14-16 bar where another 24-year-old woman was allegedly being attacked by her boyfriend — 22-year-old Tre Brinson.

Wasson said Brinson and his girlfriend began arguing while in the bar. As they left, the argument turned physical when Brinson pushed the 24-year-old into the Jeep, where he reportedly punched and choked her.

The pregnant woman, along with a 45-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, ran to help the 24-year-old woman. Brinson ran to the driver’s side and quickly backed out of the parking space, striking the pregnant woman with an open passenger door, Wasson said.

According to the report, the pregnant woman was transported to the hospital for evaluation, though the 24-year-old woman who was attacked was not transported.

Officers found Brinson near 6th Street and Butler Spaeth Road, where he was arrested for felony strangulation of a household member, felony aggravated assault and domestic battery.

Correction (11/26/2024): A previous version of this story incorrectly stated Brinson ran to another vehicle. He ran to the driver’s side of the same vehicle.
