GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Property destruction, Nov. 22, Garner Lake Road, GPD
A city employee called officers to the Energy Capital Sports Complex to investigate alleged property destruction around 8:45 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A seat had been knocked off a seesaw, and it’s not clear if the seat can be re-attached or if the entire seesaw needs to be replaced. The damage was estimated at $10,000, and the investigation is ongoing.
Crash, Nov. 22, Garman Road, CCSO
A 22-year-old man was cited for running a stop sign after he allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel of his 2007 Ford and crashed into a 58-year-old man in a 2018 Ford around 9:02 a.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The crash happened at the intersection of Gold Road and Garman Road, resulting in the 58-year-old sustaining an abdominal injury and being transported to the hospital.
Drugs, Nov. 22, Rawhide Drive, GPD
Officers responded to Rawhide Drive around 11:03 p.m. to investigate reports of a disturbance involving a 35-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, Wasson said. Both of them were standing outside when officers arrived and the man made nonsensical statements while displaying signs of drug use. He reportedly admitted to using “dope” earlier that day and was taken into custody for drug use.
Theft, Nov. 23, Sierra Circle, GPD
A 25-year-old man called officers to Sierra Circle around 8:50 a.m. after discovering his specialty gas can had been stolen from his front porch, Wasson said. The man said the can was full of fuel and provided an approximate value of $122. The investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, Nov. 23, Highway 50, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 56-year-old woman for drug possession following a traffic stop on Highway 50 and Southern Drive around 3:17 p.m., Reynolds said. The woman was stopped for speeding 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. During the stop, a deputy could smell the odor of marijuana. The vehicle occupants admitted to having marijuana and the woman told deputies where they would find it. During a search, deputies located marijuana, a THC vaping device, edibles and THC wax where the driver said they would. She was taken into custody and charged with two counts of drug possession.
Theft, Nov. 23, South Douglas Highway, GPD
A 27-year-old man was cited for theft after allegedly using a Kohl’s receipt to process a return at a local department store around 6:04 p.m., Wasson said. The man reportedly received $53.37 by returning an item and admitted to doing so when questioned. He turned over $53 but couldn’t recall what he did with the $0.37 and was trespassed from the store.
Crash, Nov. 24, Westover Road, GPD
Officers responded to the intersection of Skyline Drive and Westover Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash around 3:18 p.m., Wasson said. A 38-year-old man was westbound on Westover Road in a 2007 Cadillac and couldn’t stop due to traveling too fast on snow and ice. He slid into the intersection and collided with a 50-year-old woman in a 2020 Jeep. The woman was transported to the hospital for a leg injury while the man was cited for driving too fast for conditions, having no proof of insurance and driving under suspension.
