GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Campbell County man was arrested last night for attempted second-degree murder after allegedly slitting his girlfriend’s throat with a box cutter, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said Friday.
According to the report, the alleged assault took place on Gray Road east of Gillette shortly before 7 p.m. Nov. 21. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a 52-year-old woman with a laceration on her throat and another on her right elbow.
The woman told deputies she was attacked by her boyfriend — 47-year-old Edward W. Rusher — after a verbal argument escalated. She said Rusher attacked her with a boxcutter, and she was taken to the hospital for treatment, Reynolds said.
Rusher allegedly fled the scene in a 2001 Buick before deputies arrived. He was located by Gillette police officers who found him sitting in his vehicle outside an apartment complex around 9:41 p.m., per Reynolds.
Rusher was taken into custody without further incident and has since been charged with felony attempted second-degree murder.
