Gillette set for temperature roller coaster, possible snow flurries

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Gillette should prepare for a weather roller coaster this weekend and into next week, with fluctuating temperatures, gusty winds and even a chance of snow.

Today will bring mostly sunny skies and a high near 51 degrees. The mild weather should be enjoyed while it lasts because a weak cold front is expected to move in tonight, bringing a chance of fog, especially in areas north and east of the Black Hills, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Saturday will see a slight warmup with temperatures reaching the mid-50s, but it will also be breezy with gusts of up to 31 mph. The warmup will be short-lived as a cold front sweeps through late Saturday night, bringing much cooler temperatures and a chance of snow flurries on Sunday.

While accumulations are expected to be minimal, don’t be surprised to see a few snowflakes mixed in with the partly sunny skies Sunday. Temperatures will plummet to a high of only 33 degrees, with gusty northwest winds making it feel even colder.

Looking to Thanksgiving week, below-average temperatures are expected to persist. While Monday and Tuesday will see some sunshine and highs in the upper 30s and low 40s, a slight chance of snow returns Wednesday night and could linger into Thanksgiving Day.
