GILLETTE, Wyo. — Elevated charges will not be sought in an animal cruelty case where the remains of two dogs were found in kennels on American Lane, according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson.
According to the report, City of Gillette Animal Control officers responded to American Lane around 12:52 p.m. Nov. 14 after Campbell County deputies discovered inhumane living conditions and kenneled dog remains.
The officers found nine cats living in the residence, captured seven of them and transported the captured cats to the City of Gillette Animal Shelter, per the report. Wasson said traps were set for the remaining animals, which will be taken to the shelter when captured.
A 45-year-old man was issued two citations for misdemeanor animal cruelty, the report states.
According to Wasson, the investigation does not support elevating the animal cruelty charges to the felony level, as officers are unable to determine how the two dogs died.
