GILLETTE, Wyo. — On Tuesday, the Campbell County Board of Commissioners declared the week of Dec. 14–20 as “Wreaths Across America Week.”
The resolution recognizes the work of Wreaths Across America, an organization that has been honoring veterans since 1992.
The annual event involves the donation, transportation and placement of wreaths on the graves of fallen heroes buried at Arlington National Cemetery and other locations across the United States and overseas. This year’s theme, “Live with Purpose,” encourages everyone to contribute their time, talents and resources to support causes that positively impact their communities, the proclamation states.
The resolution passed Tuesday acknowledges the importance of remembering fallen heroes, honoring those who serve and teaching children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families. It also recognizes the dedication of American men and women serving in the military, especially those away from their homes and families during the holiday season.
With over a thousand wreaths already sponsored, volunteers are needed to help place them on Dec. 14, Toni Brown told the board.
First National Bank is a major sponsor, donating hundreds of wreaths. Additionally, the Civil Air Patrol cadets are involved in various activities throughout the year to support veterans, including fundraising through the Wreaths Across America program.
Community members are encouraged to sponsor wreaths by visiting the Wreaths Across America website and searching for Campbell County. The deadline to sponsor a wreath for this year is Nov. 29.
The Campbell County Board of Commissioners encourages residents to participate in Wreaths Across America Week and to reflect on the values of remembrance, honor and service.
