GILLETTE, Wyo. — The McCann Heights Reconstruction Project, the source of multiple street closures and limited access in a main city subdivision in recent months, has been completed, with the Gillette City Council voting to accept the finished work on Nov. 19.
According to the city, contracted workers replaced water, sewer, storm and street surfacing in the McCann Heights Subdivision in exchange for $2.3 million in city funding. The project impacted neighborhood streets including Prairieview Drive, Sunrise Lane, Highland Court and Prairieview Court.
The project was intended to replace vitrified clay sanitary sewer pipe, ductile iron water mains and asphalt surfacing, all of which were originally installed in the 1960s, per the city, which says drainage improvements were needed in the area to help address icing issues through the winter months.
According to the city, the project replaced all existing water and sewer mains with PVC pipe while crews installed new storm drawing improvements and laid new asphalt and concrete surfacing.
The project came in slightly lower than expected, costing the city $12,640 less than it planned to spend. It was fully funded from the Optional 1% Sales Tax.
