City accepts completed $115K demolition, improvement project

GILLETTE, Wyo. — On Tuesday, the Gillette City Council accepted completed work associated with a $115,000 public improvement project near Carey Avenue and Emerson Avenue.

According to the city, the project was intended to complete the demolition of four lots on Carey Avenue and one on Emerson Avenue. The project consisted of demolishing all structures, removing the foundation, disposing of shrubs, and undertaking reclamation efforts while leaving all mature trees in place.

Per the city, the lots were all purchased for future city growth in 2023. A lot at 210 Carey Ave. had a house built on it that was partially destroyed, which the city considered a hazard. The remaining lots were allegedly cleared for better future use aligning with economic development efforts.

The project was intended to be completed during the late summer, with final seeding to be completed during the fall, for a total of $91,500. The price of the project increased slightly due to crews having to remove a retaining wall, shrubbery, fencing and broken concrete along the Carey Avenue lots.

In total, the project cost $115,500 and was fully funded from the General Fund, the city says.
