GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

Child custody, Nov. 15, Elm Court, GPD

Officers responded to Elm Court after a 24-year-old woman called to report she was being followed by a 40-year-old woman who tried to take her daughter out of a vehicle around 7:59 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. According to the report, the 40-year-old was the child’s grandmother, who believed she had custody rights for the child. She said the 24-year-old took the child from her care and referenced a written agreement that she didn’t provide to officers. Officers explained that because the 24-year-old was a biological parent, the 40-year-old could not take custody of the child. She was trespassed from the Elm Court address at the 24-year-old’s request.

Theft from auto, Nov. 15, Helena Avenue, GPD

Wasson said a 21-year-old man called the police around 12:53 p.m. to report his 9mm handgun lost or stolen from his girlfriend’s vehicle on Helena Avenue. The man said he last saw the firearm on Nov. 5 and noticed it missing on Nov. 13. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

Intoxication, Nov. 15, East 2nd Street, GPD

Convenience store staff members called the police to East 2nd Street to report a 36-year-old woman was refusing to leave around 1:46 p.m., Wasson said. The woman appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and ultimately admitted to drinking two bottles of cough syrup. She was arrested for intoxication.

Drugs, Nov. 16, North Gurley Avenue, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 46-year-old woman for drug possession and a 35-year-old woman with multiple warrants following a traffic stop on North Gurley Avenue around 8:52 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The two were in a 2004 Buick that deputies stopped for an inoperable license plate light, and a drug dog gave a positive indication for the odor of a controlled substance. Deputies found the 35-year-old woman hiding in the back seat and marijuana where she was hiding. Additionally, deputies found 1.45 grams of suspected meth in the 46-year-old’s bag and she turned over a meth pipe. At the Campbell County Detention Center, deputies seized an additional baggie of meth concealed in the woman’s body and another pipe.

Agency assist, Nov. 17, Airport Road, CCSO

Deputies responded to the Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport after TSA agents called to report a traveler attempted to board a plane with a Taser around 4:56 a.m., Reynolds said. A 49-year-old woman was ultimately allowed to board the plane but the Taser was confiscated. Deputies took a report for documentation.

Drugs, Nov. 17, Little Powder River Road, CCSO

A 19-year-old man was arrested for drug possession while a 49-year-old man was arrested on multiple warrants following a speeding stop on Little Powder River Road around 8:11 a.m., Reynolds said. A drug dog reportedly indicated on the vehicle, and deputies located a gram of meth and .31 grams of THC belonging to the 19-year-old.

Drugs, Nov. 17, Rockpile Boulevard, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 36-year-old man for DWUI and drug possession after stopping him in a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche for making an improper turn near Rockpile Boulevard at 10:49 p.m., Reynolds said. A drug dog indicated on the vehicle and a search yielded a clear glass container and a scale with meth residue. Deputies also found a spilled alcoholic beverage can and several others in the vehicle. The man was taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests and displayed signs of being under the influence of a stimulant at the detention center. A judge, however, denied the blood search warrant request. The man was charged with DWUI, drug possession and failing to provide proof of insurance.
