FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A roaring crowd stormed the field and took the place of the Rams and the Cowboys’ football teams to hoist in triumph for the first time since 2020 the Bronze Boot trophy, the long sought booty fueling the century old Border War, Nov. 15. Victory always comes at a price, and the 60-minute long battle, with its highs, lows and moments of ecstasy and injury, was no exception.
The 116th Border War concluded last night in a big win for the Colorado State University Rams. For full game coverage, see the game’s recap here.
Looking around at the field as it was overtaken with rushing fans, an observer could see on full display every range of human emotion. Dedicated Rams fans cried in joy; Cowboys slinked off the field in defeat; children gazed at the splendor of the shiny metal boot with wonder. Above, the Canvas Stadium jumbotron welcomed home the boot. There it will stay until next year.
The Border War is called the Border War for good reason. Animosity fuels the rivalry — even for the players themselves. The Cowboys brought it all out on the field, but they’ll have to try again next year.
