GILLETTE, Wyo. — Stephanie M. Humphrey, a local attorney, has been unanimously selected by the Campbell County Board of Commissioners to serve as a part-time magistrate for the county’s felony treatment court.
Judge Paul Phillips presented the nomination to the county commissioners at their Nov. 7 meeting. In addition to serving for the past eight years as one of the county’s Circuit Court judges, Phillips has chaired the Board of Directors for the Campbell County Adult Treatment Courts.
Humphrey’s appointment comes as Magistrate Ryan McGrath steps down from the position after a four-year tenure. Phillips, who presided over the felony treatment court for 10 years, expressed full confidence in Humphrey’s abilities, highlighting her “controlled empathy” and strong character as ideal qualities for the demanding role.
The Campbell County Adult Treatment Court program has had more than 300 graduates successfully reintegrate into society, Phillips said. County Commissioner Del Shelstad encouraged others to visit a treatment court graduation because “in doing so, you’ll see the situations that our judges deal with.”
Commissioner Jim Ford echoed Phillips’s confidence in Humphrey, acknowledging the judge’s history of strong recommendations and the program’s overall success. The board voted unanimously in favor of Humphrey’s appointment.
