GILLETTE, Wyo. — Residents of northeastern Wyoming and the Black Hills region should prepare for not one, but two rounds of snow impacting the area today and Wednesday.

According to the latest forecast issued by the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, the first wave of snow is expected to arrive mainly this morning. Forecasters predict a 40% chance of less than an inch of snow accumulation during the daytime in northeastern Wyoming.

A second wave of snow will move in later tonight and persist through Wednesday morning. While confidence in snow totals for the plains remains moderate, the northern Black Hills could see significant accumulation due to upslope potential, with estimates ranging from 2 to 8 inches in the highest elevations. In Gillette, there’s a 40% chance of up to 2 inches of snow overnight.

Meteorologists are closely monitoring the second wave of snow and may issue a winter weather advisory if conditions warrant.

Thursday through Saturday is expected to be quiet and sunny, with a warmup back into the 50s.
