GILLETTE, Wyo. — At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Gillette City Council approved the completion of two significant projects: a major overhaul of the city’s irrigation system and renovations to the Council of Community Services parking lot.
Irrigation System Modernization
The first project, a $1.53 million upgrade to the city’s irrigation control system, marks the culmination of a five-year effort by the Parks Division. The outdated Toro Sentinel Water Management system, in use since 1996, was replaced with a modern system offering improved efficiency and control.
Phase 1 of the project focused on 25 high-priority irrigation systems across the city’s parks and public spaces, according to the city. The upgrades included new controllers, software, communication hardware and improvements to connection points and backflow prevention devices. This modernization will allow for better water management, flow rate monitoring and standardized field equipment, city staff said.
The project was funded through the 1% Optional Sales Tax Fund and completed within budget and on schedule by Hladky Construction Inc.
Council of Community Services parking lot gets a facelift
The council also approved the completion of the Council of Community Services Parking Lot Improvements Project. This $351,140 project involved a complete overhaul of the existing asphalt parking lot, replacing it with a new concrete surface. The project also included new sidewalks, ADA-compliant parking spaces and improved drainage, city documents state.
Funded by a Community Development Block Grant and contributions from the Council of Community Services, the project was completed $12,290.73 under budget by Mountain Peak Builders LLC.
