ALBUQUERQUE, N. MEX. — With a point after touchdown in the first half of the University of Wyoming’s road game against the University of New Mexico, Wyoming kicker John Hoyland has officially become the highest all-time scorer in school history.
Scoring Wyoming’s 28th point in the contest against New Mexico gave Hoyland 343 total career points, putting him one point over the previous record holder Cooper Rothe, who played for Wyoming from 2016 to 2019.
This record is not just for kickers, either. He has scored more than any player in any position through the entire length of the school’s football history.
Hoyland’s outstanding performance last week against Utah State helped him reach this goal a few games sooner than expected. In that contest, he kicked four field goals for 12 total points.
He appeared in all 13 games for the Cowboys last season and was 13-20 in field goals. In the last time the Cowboys met the Lobos, he was 4-4 in field goals.
Hoyland is a senior this year studying mechanical engineering. He is from Broomfield, Colorado originally.
