We are in the final days of the 2024 general election and we (Community for Campbell County) wanted to share with voters why we are voting for the Cam-Plex SPET Project.

  1. The Cam-Plex facility, and the areas addressed by the project, are nearly 40 years old and are in need of renovation if the facility is to continue to be an economic driver and community resource for Campbell County. The proposed multi-use facilities on the ballot are projected to bring in $55M annually in economic output and nearly a billion dollars over the next 30 years. If we do not invest in the Cam-Plex, the public subsidy to the Cam-Plex will increase as it loses more revenue-generating events as people look to newer facilities.
  2. The Cam-Plex is a critical revenue source for our community and will become even more important as energy markets continue to change. The current facility generated $18 million in indirect economic spending in fiscal year 2021 and generates $400,000 to $500,000 in sales tax revenue annually. The project on the ballot was designed based on a market analysis which showed the additional facilities are in demand and would be revenue-generating
  3. The project is about more than a single event (the National High School Rodeo Finals). While a guaranteed tenant always makes financial sense, the Master plan clearly demonstrates that the facility will be able to host many more events with infrastructure upgrades and improvements. It is designed to accommodate a multitude of events including graduation, concerts, monster trucks, sporting events, rodeo, and more.
  4. The Cam-Plex does generate revenue for this community. It is up to our elected officials to decide how much they want to re-invest in the facility. The County Commissioners and the City Council said no to $6 million in infrastructure improvements in 2022 when they decided not to fund the renovations to the Central and East pavilions. They wanted a detailed master plan before spending any taxpayer dollars and we have that plan now.

This is our opportunity to take control of the future of our community. Many members of our group are third-, fourth-, and fifth-generation Campbell County families. We have invested in and served this community for decades and we believe this is a critical investment for Cam-Plex for decades to come. We have control in this election and we are advocating for this path that keeps Campbell County a vibrant and thriving community regardless of energy markets for years to come.

Vote now through November 5 for the Cam-Plex SPET Project.
