C17 Crime Clips for Monday, Oct. 28

CASPER, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette from Friday and the weekend. This information was obtained through daily media conferences with personnel from the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. 

Breach of peace, DUI — 8:34 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 (GPD)

The Gillette Police Department got a call about a 45-year old woman at Thunder Basin High School yelling obscenities and threatening staff, according to Deputy Chief Brent Wasson. The woman was observed driving out of the parking lot and was stopped by police nearby. Wasson said the woman was obviously intoxicated and refused to identify herself or exit the vehicle, so she was removed and arrested for DUI and breach of peace.

Child abuse — 10:07 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 500 block of Longmont Street (GPD)

A woman reported that her boyfriend had struck her 14-year-old son in the face. The woman’s brother had seen the incident, according to Wasson. Officers responded to find the suspect, a 36-year-old man, cleaning up blood. The boy had swelling on the left side of his face and a possible broken nose and was taken to the hospital, Wasson said. The man was arrested on recommended charges of felony child abuse.

Theft — 8:34 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, Rozet

A 54-year-old woman reported the theft of about $600 worth of beef from her freezer, according to Campbell County Undersheriff Quinton Reynolds. The woman had a suspect in mind, and deputies contacted him, but he denied it. The man was trespassed from the woman’s property.

DUI — 5:27 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2500 block of South Douglas Highway

Officers responded to the Powder Basin Shopping Center for a report of a man passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, Wasson said. Officers awoke a 33-year-old male, who admitted to drinking and was arrested after attempting field sobriety tests.

Narcotics — 2:47 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25

A 54-year-old woman reported finding about a gram of suspected methamphetamine in a coat pocket in a storage unit that she’d purchased at an auction, along with a card identifying a 44-year-old male, Wasson said. The man named on the card was in jail on an unrelated matter and denied having anything to do with the drugs found.

Auto theft — Friday, Oct. 25 (CCSO)

A woman reported that her 2019 Black Grand Cherokee, which had been broken down in the area of Highway 51 and Sunnyslope Road, was missing. She had called tow companies and law enforcement but none reported it had been towed, Reynolds said. She believed it was stolen sometimes between Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. and Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. The vehicle has been entered into the national stolen vehicle registry.

Intoxicated minor — 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26

A woman and her friend contacted police and EMS after the woman’s daughter, a 17-year-old, appeared to be heavily intoxicated after reportedly being out drinking with friends. The girl was taken to Campbell County Health for treatment and was cited for consuming alcohol while a minor, Wasson said.

Breach Of peace — 12:07 a.m. Oct. 27, 300 block of Sierra circle (GPD)  

A 46-year-old woman called to report juveniles were knocking on her door and fleeing. This was the fourth report of similar activity in a year, Wasson said. Responding officers stopped a white 2021 Mazda matching the description. Three 17-year-old males and one 16-year-old male had their parents called and were cited for breach of peace.

Fraud — Friday, Oct. 25 (GPD)

A 50-year-old man reported that someone had used his bank account debit to purchase a mattress for $440 from Amazon, with a shipping address in New York. Wasson said police have reached out to that jurisdiction to coordinate on the investigation.

Theft — 2:22 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, Wright Storage, Lariat Way

A man reported about $2,000 worth of tools missing from his storage unit, Reynolds said. The man reported that the suspect had to have had the code. There are no suspects yet, and the crime is under investigation.
