GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Oct. 23. This information was obtained through daily media conferences with personnel from the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Narcotics — 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 900 block of Camel Drive (GPD)
A 23-year-old male requested EMS due to using marijuana and not feeling well, according to GPD Deputy Chief Brent Wasson. Officers and medical personnel responded to an apartment and were given consent to search. Misdemeanor amounts of marijuana wax and plant were found in the possession of the two residents, aged 23 and 24. The guest who called was also cited for use of a controlled substance.
REDDI — 1:52 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 (GPD)
A bar reportedly stopped serving a patron due to his level of intoxication, and police were alerted to his poor driving on the way to another bar on the 700 block of Gillette Avenue, Wasson said. Officers contacted the 42-year-old man, who was reportedly obviously intoxicated and uncooperative. He was arrested for DUI.
DUI — 7:41 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 6100 block of Lone Tree Drive (CCSO)
A homeowner reported an unfamiliar vehicle — a light blue Corolla — in their driveway. As deputies pulled up, the car drove off but soon pulled over, according to Campbell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dan Maul. The deputy observed an open beer in the center console, and the 22-year-old male driver did poorly on field sobriety tests, Maul said. At the jail, his blood alcohol tested at .16%, twice the legal limit
Harassment — 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 (CCSO)
A 45-year-old woman reported a 37-year-old woman for sending her harassing texts after the women’s children were reportedly picking on each other at an after-school function. Deputies advised the parties to leave each other alone, Maul said.
Agency assist — 8:53 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, Highway 387 east of Midwest (CCSO)
Deputies assisted the Wyoming Highway Patrol after a suspect reportedly fled on foot. The suspect, a Riverton resident, was apprehended soon after and was charged with interference, speeding, eluding, expired registration and no proof of insurance. They also had two warrants, according to arrest records.
Hit-and-run — 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 (CCSO)
A 60-year-old man and his wife discovered damage to the rear passenger side of their 2011 GMC. They believe it happened while they were going to various locations on Tuesday and discovered the damage Wednesday morning. The damage is estimated at over $1,000.
Theft — Wednesday, Oct. 23 (GPD)
A 32-year-old man reported the theft of a Browning .22 handgun from his 2022 Chevy pickup on the 500 block of Layton Way sometime overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, Wasson said. The value of the gun is estimated at $500, and there are no suspects yet. There were no signs of forced entry, so the door had likely been left unlocked, Wasson said.
