GILLETTE, Wyo. — An arson investigation is underway following a half-acre fire at Overlook Park that resulted in multiple evacuations early today, Oct. 17, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said.
According to the report, the fire ignited after an explosion, which was heard by two officers patrolling near Wagonwheel Elementary School around 2:15 a.m. After the explosion, Gillette police received multiple reports of a fire burning at Overlook Park.
When they arrived, high winds were fueling a half-acre fire, and officers evacuated multiple residences surrounding the park, Wasson said. The Campbell County Fire Department quickly responded and extinguished the fire.
No structural damage was observed, per Wasson, who said an arson investigation is underway and there are no suspects as of Oct. 17.
