C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, Oct. 10

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Oct. 9, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Intoxication, Oct. 9, Highway 59, GPD

Officers responded to the intersection of 4th Street and Highway 59 for a report of an intoxicated woman at a local hotel around 1:45 p.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. When they arrived, they observed a 39-year-old woman who was not wearing a top and was exposing herself. The woman was taken into custody for intoxication.

Drugs, Oct. 9, West 8th Street, GPD

Officers were dispatched to West 8th Street around 2:59 p.m. after receiving an anonymous report of a 33-year-old man posting pictures of a marijuana plant on social media, Wasson said. The pictures led officers to believe the man was cultivating marijuana, but he was not home when they arrived. The man’s father, a 56-year-old man, denied consent to search, and the investigation is ongoing.

Crash, Oct. 9, Lawver Road, CCSO

Deputies and emergency personnel responded to the area of Lawver Road to investigate an automatic crash notification from a cellphone around 4:55 p.m., Sheriff Scott Matheny said. Several individuals wearing camouflage were contacted and found to be hunting antelope. One of them, a 40-year-old man, reportedly lost his phone and had his daughter in Texas ping the location. He believed his daughter hit the wrong button and triggered the emergency alert.

Child in need of supervision, Oct. 9, Desert Hills Circle, GPD

Officers responded to Desert Hills Circle around 7:13 p.m. for a report of an unsupervised toddler being outside in a diaper for nearly an hour, Wasson said. When they arrived, officers found a 3-year-old girl who couldn’t identify herself, her caretakers or where she lived. The Wyoming Department of Family Services was contacted and while officers were waiting for a response, the girl’s parents approached. They didn’t know how the child got out of their residence, and DFS will follow up.

Burglary, Oct. 9, Stanley Avenue, GPD

Wasson said someone reportedly stole a 30-year-old man’s gaming keyboard from his residence on Stanley Avenue. The man contacted the police around 9:06 p.m. Oct. 9 after finding the keyboard missing. There were no signs of forced entry, and the keyboard was valued at $160. The investigation is ongoing.
