C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, Oct. 9

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Oct. 8, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Drugs, Oct. 8, North Gurley Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to North Gurley Avenue around 10:41 a.m. for a report of drugs found in a tool bag, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The tool bag was found on the roadway near Desert Hills Circle by a 45-year-old man. He reportedly opened the bag to identify an owner and saw methamphetamine and a glass pipe. The items were logged into evidence.

Breach of peace, Oct. 8, Highway 14-16, GPD

A 32-year-old woman contacted the police at 10:48 a.m. to report being recently assaulted by a 27-year-old woman at a local bar on Highway 14-16, Wasson said. The woman said the alleged altercation occurred on Oct. 4 around 11 a.m. when the 27-year-old grabbed her by the throat and threw her to the ground. The investigation is ongoing.

Shoplifting, Oct. 8, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers recovered five pairs of shoes reportedly stolen from a shoe store on South Douglas Highway yesterday, Wasson said. The suspect vehicle, a 2007 Mercedes, was located on Overdale Drive, where officers contacted a 38-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man. Both were positively identified through surveillance footage and were subsequently cited for shoplifting around 9:26 p.m.

Assault, Oct. 8, West Boxelder Road, CCSO

Officers responded to the Campbell County Detention Center after a 37-year-old man called to report a detention officer slammed his foot in a door around 11:22 p.m., Wasson said. The report was not substantiated and the man declined medical attention.
