LARAMIE, Wyo. — During ongoing construction in the heart of UW’s Laramie campus, a natural gas line was ruptured and forced the evacuation of McWhinnie Hall, the UW Lab School, the campus Service Building and the Sigma Nu fraternity.

According to UW Institutional Communications, the nearby Wyoming Union and Half Acre Rec and Wellness Center remain open, but all students, faculty and campus visitors are advised to stay away from the affected area.

According to the university, it is currently safe to enter the affected buildings. There was about a one-and-a-half-hour period where the buildings were totally evacuated.

Additionally, an email sent out to all students from the university announced that pedestrians are still safe to cross 15th Street further south near Sorority Row between class buildings and campus housing.
