Pokes in the Pros: Week 5

With another stellar outing in Week 5, Casper native Logan Wilson finds himself in a four-way tie for the second-most tackles in the league thus far this season.

CASPER, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming has produced several NFL players currently making an impact. Here’s how they did in the most recent week’s slate of games.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen was uncharacteristically inefficient in his team’s Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans, 23–20.

Allen was just a paltry 9-of-30 on passing attempts, a 30% completion percentage. Despite not even reaching 10 completions — only the second time he’s failed to do so since the 2019 season — he still threw for 131 yards, in large part because of a 49-yard connection with receiver Keon Coleman.

Allen finished with 54 rushing yards to complement his 131 passing yards and one passing touchdown.

However, Allen’s outing was alarming for more reasons than just his subpar performance. In the fourth quarter, the Bills’ superstar quarterback appeared to sustain a head injury as he was tackled at the tail end of a play. His head landed hard on the ground, and he remained down until receiving medical attention on the field. He eventually walked off the field on his own.

Frank Crum, Denver Broncos

Frank Crum, a rookie offensive tackle, saw the most action of his season on Sunday in his team’s 34–18 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Crum took the field for 15 downs — nine on offense and six with the special teams squad — which is comfortably a career-high for the young player. After being left off the active roster for the first two games, he then took the field for six and three downs in the next two games, respectively.

Crum’s expanded role comes after starter Mike McGlinchey was recently sidelined with an injury, opening up a roster spot for Crum and two other backup OLs to fill.

Carl Granderson, New Orleans Saints

Defensive end Carl Granderson had one of his better outings of the season this week, though it came in a 26–13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs during which the Saints’ offense let down the defensive unit.

Granderson totaled seven tackles, a season high. He now has 22 tackles on the season.

Chad Muma, Jacksonville Jaguars

Chad Muma continued his improved play of late, and the linebacker helped propel his team to a 37–34 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Muma recorded five tackles in the loss. After only finding three total tackles across the first two games of the season, he then proceeded to rack up 20 across the ensuing three games. His five tackles in Week 5 are the fewest he’s had in that time, finishing with eight and seven in the other two.

Logan Wilson, Cincinnati Bengals

It was another standout week for the former Natrona County Mustang, who now serves as one of the undisputed leaders of the Bengals’ defense.

In his team’s 41–38 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Wilson finished with nine tackles and a stuff.

With 52 tackles thus far in the season, Wilson is currently in a four-way tie for the second-most tackles in the league.
