CCH announces arrival of new psychiatrist

Dr. William Salmon

GILLETTE, Wyo. — On Friday, Campbell County Health announced the arrival of a new psychiatrist to its Behavioral Health Services team: a Canadian-born doctor committed to removing the stigmas surrounding mental health.

Dr. William Salmon’s arrival at Campbell County Health was announced on Oct. 3. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the northeast Wyoming region, per CCH.

According to a CCH release, Salmon is originally from Canada and has traveled and lived in metropolitan areas like Atlanta, Georgia, and Miami, Florida. He ultimately chose Gillette for its tight-knit community and outdoor lifestyle, which suits his family’s interests.

Salmon’s wife, Dr. Alexandra McClenahan, will be joining CCH Family Medicine as a family practice provider. Salmon and McClenahan are excited to immerse themselves in the local community and embrace Wyoming’s adventurous spirit.

Per CCH, Salmon’s medical journey began during his undergraduate studies in psychology, where he initially planned to pursue a Ph.D. He ultimately pursued a path to becoming a psychologist after a mentor exposed him to the biological and medical aspects of behavioral health.

He reportedly finds the greatest reward in building relationships with his patients and guiding them toward improved well-being, CCH says.

“When you build a relationship with a patient and bring them to a new way of living and help them feel better, that’s truly rewarding — you can’t beat that,” Salmon said in a statement.

Through his work, Salmon values the ability to connect with individuals and understands that while everyone’s needs may differ, the goal is always to find a way to provide support and care.

“What I love about this work is seeing both the differences and similarities among us,” Salmon said in a statement. “There’s always a way to connect and a way to help.”

When not engaged in their work, Salmon and his wife enjoy an array of outdoor activities from camping and snow sports to dirt biking and running, per CCH.
