GILLETTE, Wyo. — This past Sunday marked the start of National 4-H Week, which runs until this Sunday, Oct. 12. Campbell County 4-H is encouraging youth interested in the program to apply during the week to be entered to win a prize goodie basket along with enrollment, Campbell County 4-H announced in a press release last week.

A national program dating back decades, 4-H encourages youth development, education and community engagement. Youth ages 8–18 can participate in programming focused on a wide variety of interests and skills, from raising livestock to cooking and shooting sports. 4-H also has a program for children ages 5–7 called the Cloverbuds, which functions as an introduction to 4-H and showcases a wide variety of 4-H programs to children to help them find activities they are interested in pursuing as they grow up.

4-H in Wyoming is run through the University of Wyoming Extension Office, offering programing to students in all counties and the Wind River Indian Reservation. Last year, nearly 600 youth participated in the program in Campbell County alone. To celebrate National 4-H Week, Campbell County 4-H is partnering with local businesses across the county. The Ice Cream Cafe and Pop Art 307 have a special line of “4-H Green” treats available, and the Brown Cow Coffee in Wright is also serving up drinks in special 4-H–themed cups to celebrate.
