GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette between Friday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 6, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Death, Oct. 4, CCSO
A 66-year-old woman called the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department at 8:55 a.m. to report that she had found her husband, 80, deceased in his recliner. She said he had been dealing with health issues for the past several years. No foul play is suspected.
DWUI, Oct. 4, Highway 59, CCSO
Deputies stopped a black Kia with Arizona plates as it was traveling south in the northbound lane. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was the only occupant of the vehicle and gave the deputy his Arizona license after he approached the car. While taking the man’s information, the deputy noticed the smell of alcohol from the car and had the man perform a field sobriety test. He was arrested for DUI at the Detention Center, where he also submitted to a breath test, blowing a .184 blood alcohol content level — over twice the legal limit.
Drugs, Oct. 5, East Laramie Street, CCSO
Deputies observed a 45-year-old woman they knew to have several warrants walking on the 400 block of East Laramie Street late Saturday morning and stopped her to place her under arrest. While arresting her, officers found she was carrying a meth pipe in her purse, along with .57 grams of suspected methamphetamine in a stash container in her jacket. She was charged with possession and will be held for court for her outstanding warrants.
Family Fight, Oct. 6, Worley Drive, CCSO
Deputies responded to reports of a loud verbal argument between family members at a residence on Worley Drive late Sunday evening. Upon arrival, deputies noted an odor of marijuana coming from the home and after requesting and being granted a search warrant, they discovered four bags of marijuana totaling 42.99 grams in weight inside the home. Two bags containing approximately 8 grams of methamphetamine were also found, along with a pipe containing suspected methamphetamine residue. A 57-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman were both arrested for possession and taken to the Detention Center.
Crash with Injuries, Oct. 6, Highway 59 and Madison Street, GPD
Officers responded to a call from a 40-year-old woman that a two-vehicle crash had occurred at the intersection of Highway 59 and Madison Avenue. The crash involved a 64-year-old man driving a 2003 Buick LeSabre south on Highway 59 and a 16-year-old girl driving a 2011 Kia west on Madison Street.
The 16-year-old was stopped in traffic and was waiting for cars to yield to her as she attempted to cross straight though the intersection, and traffic from turning cars did not clear until after the light had turned red. She proceeded anyway in an attempt to get out from the middle of the intersection, at which point she collided with the Buick. She was transported to the emergency room for difficulty breathing, while the driver of the Buick refused EMS care. Both cars were towed from the scene with over $1,000 in damages estimated for both cars. No citations have been issued.
