Mary Lee Hughes Cannady: 1938 – 2024
Mary Hughes Cannady, longtime resident and business woman of Glenrock, Wyoming passed away peacefully Tuesday evening October 1, 2024. Mary was born in Leoti, Kansas on May 6, 1938 to Carl and Adele Wonsetler.
After her high school graduation, she married her first husband, Donald “Don” Hughes. He worked for several companies that had them travel the Kansas-Colorado border until he started in the lumber industry. They first moved to Casper, Wyoming and later came to Glenrock and opened Hughes Hardware and Lumber in 1973 until Don’s sudden passing in 1981.
Mary then attended Wyoming Eastern College and obtained her associates degree in accounting. During this time, she met and married her second husband, Richard Cannady, in 1987. They soon opened and operated Glenrock Components from 1989 to 2024. Their store just recently closed their doors for the final time on Saturday September 28.
She was involved in several organizations and served for several years on the Glenrock Economic Development Committee board. She also gained her 50 year pin with Eastern Star several years ago. A very proud milestone for her as her family have been a part of the Mason’s for over a century.
She will be missed and survived by her children: Forest (Marla) Hughes of Lake Stevens, Washington, Anita (Hughes) Ferguson of Lacey, Washington, and Mike (Elizabeth) Hughes of Glenrock, Wyoming; as well as several stepchildren and grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Jenna Rose Hoaglund: 1986 – 2024
Goodbye hurts the most when the story has not been finished.
Jenna Rose Hoaglund (38) of Gillette, Wyoming left this world behind in the loving company of those who cherished her the most, after bravely battling health conditions for numerous years.
Born to Tim and Tammy (Apland) Hoaglund on July 23 1986 (Casper, Wyoming), Jenna was the first of two children and was loved from the moment she took her first breath. Through her life, Jenna remained the pride and joy of her father who was her rock and her biggest supporter.
At age 8, the Hoaglunds, now a family of four, relocated to Gillette where Jenna would spend the majority of her life.
Jenna was your typical teenage girl. Loving her country lifestyle, her friends and most of all her sister Jacee. She was active in numerous sports including volleyball and basketball, she was also involved in choir. In 2004, Jenna graduated from Campbell County High School.
After graduation Jenna’s life was filled with laughter and memories between her and her close-knit group of friends, leading her to meet and marry Shane Johner, with the birth of her oldest daughter, Shayna, soon to follow. Their little family grew quickly as they welcomed three more beautiful children: Shylo, Alton (AJ), and Blayne. Young but in love, Shane and Jenna could often be found together enjoying things they shared a passion for including bowling. As life happens, Jenna and Shane ultimately chose to separate, but Jenna continued to be proud of the gifts their marriage had given her.
In the years to follow, Jenna took pride in helping coach her daughters in volleyball and supporting them as they became involved in numerous other sports. She became a cheerleader when AJ began his journey into sports, and beamed with pride when Blayne became active in the special olympics. She continued to proudly support Blayne and his siblings until her time with them came to a close. Although Jenna is gone she will continue to support and cheerlead for eternity.
Jenna has left this world but did not cross over alone. She was welcomed by her mother, Tammy; as well as her maternal grandmother, Myrona Apland; and her paternal grandparents, Agnus and Stan Hoaglund.
Jenna will be greatly missed by her beloved children: Shayna, Shylo, AJ, and Blayne Johner; her sister, Jacee Hoaglund; her rock, Timothy Hoaglund; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
To lose is a burden we all must carry – but to love is a gift to rejoice. Rest well Jenna; until we see you again.
A benefit for her children and father will be held at Sundance Lounge on Oct 13 2024 at 12 p.m.

Deborah McLeland: 1951 – 2024
Funeral service for Deborah McLeland will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Church of Latter-day Saints-Stake Center 1500 O’Hare Drive with Bishop Clark Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at the Church of Latter-day Saints-Stake Center.
Deborah “Debbie” McLeland, a cherished mother, educator, and devoted advocate for her community, passed away on September 30, 2024, at the UC Health Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado.
Debbie was born on May 18, 1951 to Richard and Lucille Dumbrill in Laramie, Wyoming. The family later moved to Newcastle, Wyoming, where she attended public school and participated in band, choir, and home education. After graduating from Newcastle High School in 1969, she went on to earn a degree in education (minor in library science) from the University of Wyoming in 1973. She worked as an educator from 1973 to 1975 before dedicating herself fully to being a loving homemaker and mother.
On June 6, 1971, Debbie married Charles “Jim” McLeland in Newcastle, Wyoming, beginning a family that would become the cornerstone of her life. They settled in Gillette, where they raised their children: Nathan S. McLeland, Morgan J. McLeland, and Ryan C. McLeland, with unwavering love, proudly watching each of them graduate from high school there. Debbie took immense pride in establishing a race/walk event in memory of Morgan, who died in a tragic accident near Laramie in 2001. The race honors Morgan’s memory by advocating against drunk and impaired driving.
Debbie’s interests extended beyond her family; she embraced the joys of travel, ranch life, music, and cheering at local sporting events. Her passion for her community was evident in her extensive involvement and commitment to always uplifting those around her. She was a member of the LDS Church, P.E.O., the Campbell County School Board, the Gillette College Foundation Board, and the Y.E.S. House Board.
Debbie is survived by her mother, Lucille C. Dumbrill; her brothers, R. Douglas Dumbrill and John C. Dumbrill; and her sons, Nathan and Ryan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, JaNel Farnsworth Dumbrill; her daughters-in-law, Robbie McLeland and Kara McLeland; and her six grandchildren: Kaylee, Spencer, Breckin, and Charley, and Rooney and Augie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her son, Morgan; and her father, Richard.
Debbie’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and generosity. Her unwavering dedication to her family and community has left an indelible mark on all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire kindness and strength in those who follow her example.
A memorial has been established to benefit the following organizations: Y.E.S. House Foundation or the Gillette College Foundation.
Jason Swecker: 1971 – 2024
Jason Carl Swecker, 52, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away at his home of natural causes. Jason was born October 12,1971 to the late Roy Swecker Sr. and Virginia Wagner in Billings, Montana. He lived in a couple places throughout his childhood including Guymon, Oklahoma. He graduated in 1989 from Guymon High School.
He was a truck driver for most of his career until his health wouldn’t allow it. He resided in Gillette, Wyoming for most of his adult life. Jason was a gentle man with a caring heart. He never met a stranger. He had a love for drag racing, especially in his beloved mustang, until he was no longer able to race due to his health complications. He then lived for this excitement through his brother Roy; always there to talk shop, encourage and watch while he was racing.
He is survived by his brothers, Bryan (Teresa) Swecker, Roy (Janel) Swecker; nephews, William (Bethany) Swecker and Beck Swecker; nieces, Kaitlyn Swecker and Alexis Swecker; along with other family members. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Swecker Sr.; mother, Virginia Wagner; stepfather, Geoff Bloxom; and his niece, Virginia Dodd.
