GILLETTE, Wyo. — A planned Interstate 90 closure has been postponed by the Wyoming Department of Transportation as a nearby wildfire poses safety risks in the area.
WYDOT District Four, which encompasses most of northeast Wyoming, announced in a press release Thursday that a planned closure of I-90 between Wyola, Montana and Acme, Wyoming, would be postponed due to activity from the Elk Fire.
Originally planned for Monday, Oct. 7, to conduct aerial spraying, the closure has been tentatively rescheduled for Oct. 21. The Elk Fire has grown rapidly in recent days and is currently at 0% containment. Located just northwest of Dayton, the fire is an estimated 49,555 acres in size.
