CASPER, Wyo. — Former Wyoming Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney will appear at a campaign event for Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Thursday.
According to The Guardian, the two will appear in Ripon, Wisconsin, a small town known as the birthplace of the Republican party. The move is a bid to appeal to moderate Republicans and independents who might have misgivings voting for former president Donald Trump. Wisconsin is among the battleground states that both Harris and Trump are fighting to win.
Cheney has been an outspoken opponent of Trump since the Jan. 6 insurrection, voting to impeach the then-president for inciting the riot and leading the committee that would refer him to the justice department for criminal charges.
Cheney, the daughter of former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney and a staunch conservative, lost her Wyoming seat to Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman in the 2022 primary election. She endorsed Harris for president last month, and was soon joined by her father with an endorsement of his own.
