GILLETTE, Wyo. — Campbell County court records say a woman accused of threatening her boyfriend with a knife during an Arial Avenue assault will appear for jury trial in March.
Caron Highhawk, 34, will appear for a jury trial on March 3. She is charged with felony aggravated assault, theft and domestic battery, with prosecutors alleging she physically assaulted a 39-year-old man, threatened him with a kitchen knife and stole prescription medications from him, court documents say.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case, officers were dispatched to Ariel Avenue around 3:07 a.m. Sept. 9 for a report of a man being assaulted by Highhawk. The dispatcher who took the call could hear the ongoing physical assault and the man tell Highhawk to get a knife away from him.
The 39-year-old man had physical signs of injury on his face and around his eyes when officers arrived. He reportedly said Highawk came at him with a large steak knife, which was later found to be a black and silver kitchen knife with an 8-inch blade, the affidavit states.
Court documents say that Highhawk and the man were at a bar together earlier in the night and fell asleep after returning to the Ariel Avenue residence. The man said he was awoken by Highhawk yelling and striking him in the face while demanding to know his phone password.
The man’s phone was locked out from multiple incorrect password attempts, the affidavit states, adding that Highhawk armed herself with a kitchen knife when he called for help. She allegedly angled the knife blade toward the man and motioned like she was going to stab him.
Highhawk denied the allegations and told officers she was upset over a notification on the man’s phone, stating that she didn’t know the passcode to the device but he knew the one for hers. He reportedly refused to give it to her and she claimed he wouldn’t let her leave the residence, the affidavit says.
Per court documents, she told the man she would ruin him when he got upset over her request to leave. While she initially denied touching a knife, Highhawk admitted the denial was a lie after officers asked if they would find her fingerprints on it.
The arresting officer ultimately concluded that Highhawk committed felony aggravated assault by threatening the man with a drawn deadly weapon. She was also charged with domestic violence, according to the affidavit.
Following her arrest, an officer asked her about having any controlled substances and she admitted to having several Trazadone pills stolen from the man’s residence, the affidavit states.
Felony aggravated assault is punishable by up to 10 years in jail, a $10,000 fine or both. Theft with intent to deprive and domestic battery, both misdemeanors, are each punishable by up to a $750 fine, six months in prison or both.
