Red flag warning in Campbell County as temps fluctuate, fire conditions persist

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Temperatures will go on a bit of a roller coaster ride for the next few days, although they should remain above normal for this time of year. Dry weather with breezy conditions will create elevated fire weather concerns, particularly today, Friday and Saturday, the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, said.

A cool front will settle into the region today, bringing breezy northwest winds, where gusts of 23 mph are possible all day and night. Winds to the east will be much stronger as that area sits ahead of the front, where highs will reach the mid-80s to low 90s. Areas behind the front, like Campbell County, will see cooler temperatures in the mid-70s.

Campbell County remains under a red flag warning through 6 p.m.

Cooler temperatures are expected tonight and Thursday, with lows in the 30s tonight and highs in the 60s Thursday. Warmer weather will return for Friday, with highs in the 80s, and it will be quite windy and cool Saturday in Campbell County.

A ridge will rebuild early next week, bringing warm weather back to the region by Monday, with highs in and near the 80s.

No precipitation is expected throughout the period, further exacerbating the dry conditions and fire weather concerns.
