GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Oct. 1, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Family Fight, Oct. 1, Gunpowder Streeet, CCSO
Deputies with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a family fight at a residence on Gunpowder Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. A couple at the residence was reportedly in a heated argument for several hours before the fight turned physical, when a man, 35, grabbed a 33-year-old woman and shoved her to the ground before putting her in a headlock. The woman reported pain from the incident and also sustained bruising to her arms. When officers arrived, the man was no longer at the residence, but a 24-hour arrest and hold was issued for him after deputies were unable to locate him.
DUI, Oct. 1, East 9th Street, GPD
Officers responding to reports of a red SUV driving erratically located the vehicle in question near Highway 59 and 12th Street, following it to the 900 block of East 9th Street. The SUV was empty when officers approached, but they found a man stumbling in the yard adjacent to where the car was parked. The man, 41, told officers he had been driving, said he had been drinking earlier and was showing other signs of impairment. He performed and failed a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested for DWUI.
Theft, Oct. 1, Gillette Avenue, GPD
Multiple businesses along South Gillette Avenue made reports of theft to the GPD after flowers and planters were stolen from outside their storefronts. Various items including potted succulents and a decorative bird cage were stolen. The value for the stolen items was estimated at up to $140. A 23-year-old woman who is a manager at the Montgomery Bar made a report after hearing that other businesses had in the area as well, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. She reported that the peony flowers stolen from their front entrance had been planted by the city. All incidents occurred some time between Sept. 17 and 18. Investigation into the thefts is ongoing.
Unattended Death, Oct. 1, South Emerson Avenue, GPD
The GPD received a report of a deceased man inside a residence on the 2300 block of South Emerson Avenue at 12:53 p.m. The deceased, a 52-year-old man, was found by a friend, according to Wasson. No foul play is suspected and the investigation is ongoing.
Destruction of Property, Oct. 1, Paul Revere Lane, GPD
A 34-year-old man driving a 2016 Ford truck reported a man recklessly driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, following the motorcycle driver to his residence to confront him after making the report to police. After he drove away from the confrontation, the motorcycle driver, a 41-year-old man, threw a knife at the back window of his truck.
The knife broke the window, causing an estimated $500 in damage. The 41-year-old was cited for destruction of property and both men were given verbal warnings from officers.
