GILLETTE, Wyo. — Dry weather and above-normal temperatures will continue this week despite a cool front that prompted a freeze warning through 8 a.m. today.
Today’s dry and breezy conditions will create elevated fire weather concerns, which led the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, to issue a red flag warning from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Warm air advection will lead to warmer temperatures today, with highs in the 70s. Humidity will be as low as 8%, and that will combine with south winds at 10–20 mph. Gusts could reach 35 mph.
Temperatures around Campbell County will remain in the high 70s until Thursday, when another cool front knocks the high into the mid-60s. Compressional warming will push Friday’s high back to near 80 degrees, where temperatures will remain into early next week.
No precipitation is expected throughout the forecast period, further exacerbating the dry conditions and fire weather concerns.
