GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 30, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Theft, Sept. 30, Highway 59, CCSO
Deputies responded to a travel plaza in Wright around 3:26 p.m. to investigate a reported theft, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. Staff said an elderly woman with white hair stole four toys, each valued under $10. The investigation is ongoing.
Fraud, Sept. 30, Willow Street, Svalina Road, CCSO
Two Campbell County residents called the sheriff’s office in the afternoon to report falling victim to social media puppy scams, Reynolds said. A 47-year-old man on Willow Street said his daughter lost $500 after reportedly paying for a puppy posted for sale on Facebook. Around 30 minutes later, a 29-year-old woman on Svalina Road called the sheriff’s office to report losing $470 after she fell for a similar scam. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
Assault, Sept. 30, Big Powder River Road, CCSO
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department notified the sheriff’s office about a possible assault between landowners and hunters on Big Powder River Road around 4:43 p.m., Reynolds said. According to the report, four hunters said they were contacted by landowners alleging shots being fired at them from a side-by-side. The landowners allegedly pulled a gun on the hunters and threatened to shoot them. The investigation is ongoing.
