GILLETTE, Wyo. — Northeast Wyoming will continue to have dry weather and warmer-than-average temperatures through the weekend, with highs in the 80s and 90s. However, a cold front will arrive Sunday night, bringing cooler air and gusty winds to start next week.
Breezy southerly winds and low humidity will create elevated fire weather conditions today through Sunday, with Sunday posing the highest risk for widespread critical fire weather, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Today will be around 8 degrees cooler than Thursday, which set a new temperature record with a high of 94, beating the 93-degree record set in 2015. Today’s high of 86 will come with plenty of sunshine and clear skies, with a south wind at 7–12 mph picking up to 13–18 mph later this morning. Gusts could reach 24 mph.
Tonight will see a low near 51 under mostly clear skies. Winds from the south will return to 6–10 mph. Gusts could still reach 20 mph, according to the forecast.
Temperatures will remain elevated for this time of year through the weekend, reaching an apex on Sunday ahead of the cool front that will knock temperatures 30 degrees for a high of 62 on Monday.
