GILLETTE, Wyo. — Campbell County’s dry, hot spell will last a while longer despite an incoming cool front.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, has forecast a high of 89 under sunny skies today. Winds will come from the southwest at 10–17 mph with gusts reaching 28 mph. Wednesday’s red flag warning was extended until 7 p.m. today as low humidities, winds and hot temps combine to create critical fire weather conditions.
Tonight’s cool front will drop the overnight low to around 49 degrees as skies remain mostly clear. Winds will come from the north at 13–18 mph, falling to 6–11 mph after midnight. Gusts could reach 29 mph.
The rest of the week and the weekend will be much of the same: dry with clear, sunny skies and highs that flirt with 90 degrees. Overnight lows will be in the 40s and 50s until another round of cool air early next week drops Monday’s low to 36.
