GILLETTE, Wyo. — Residents looking to chat with local law enforcement over coffee will get their chance this October during the annual Coffee with a Cop event, according to the City of Gillette.

On Oct. 2, Gillette police officers will be available to talk at The Local, a coffee shop at 220 S. Kendrick Ave., from 8 to 10 a.m. All members of the community are invited to the event, which is designed to build positive relationships between the public and law enforcement, the city says.

“We know that a lot of interactions with law enforcement happen during emergencies or in other stressful situations,” Gillette Police Chief Chuck Deaton said in a statement. “So, we look forward to events like Coffee with a Cop where we have the chance to get to know the community in a more casual setting.”

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative that began in 2016 as part of National Community Policing Week and is celebrated across the county on the first Wednesday in October to break down barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve.
