GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 24, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Death, Sept. 24, Lincoln Street, GPD
Officers responded to Lincoln Street at 2:39 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive 74-year-old woman, GPD Detective Sgt. Dean Welch said. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the 74-year-old woman was pronounced deceased, and life-saving measures were not taken in alignment with a do-not-resuscitate order. The woman had ongoing medical issues at the time of her death and had been sick for several weeks. No foul play is suspected, and the investigation continues.
Suspicious activity, Sept. 24, Lobo Lane, GPD
Someone reportedly left a kitchen knife on a 41-year-old woman’s porch steps on Lobo Lane which was discovered and reported around 4:22 p.m., Welch said. The woman said her 12-year-old son found the knife around 4 p.m. and didn’t know who could have left it or why. A witness reported seeing an adult man walking in the area talking to himself while pointing at the ground. There are no suspects or leads, and the knife was logged into evidence.
Drugs, Sept. 24, Sierra Drive, GPD
A 35-year-old woman called the police to Sierra Drive around 9:14 p.m. to report her 14-year-old son was smoking marijuana, Welch said. When officers arrived, they learned the boy had been utilizing a THC vaping device and could see him displaying signs of marijuana use. The boy said he was with a friend but couldn’t provide any name other than the individual’s first name. Officers cited the 14-year-old for using a controlled substance and released him to his mother.
DWUI, Sept. 24, Northern Drive, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 29-year-old woman for impaired driving with a child passenger following a traffic stop near Northern Drive and Hannum Road around 11:44 p.m., Sheriff’s Office Capt. Paul Pownall said. The woman was stopped in a silver Jeep for an improper turn. She displayed signs of impairment and was taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests. There were three children in the vehicle, all under the age of 12, and an intoxicated man.
EMS call, Sept. 25, Cascade Drive, GPD
Officers were dispatched to Cascade Drive for a report of a 69-year-old woman who had stopped breathing around 5:30 a.m., Welch said. When they arrived, officers performed CPR and applied an AED, though no shock was advised. Emergency medical personnel took over life-saving measures when they arrived and got the woman’s heart beating again. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.
