GILLETTE, Wyo. — A recently relaunched website will provide residents with critical information regarding the Gurley Overpass, according to the City of Gillette.
The website, Inform Gillette, was originally launched to provide information on the 2024 International Pathfinder Camporee. With the camporee now past, the website has been relaunched to provide information on the Gurley Overpass and the steps being taken to maintain and eventually replace it, per the city.
Serving approximately 10,000 vehicles every day, the Gurley Overpass serves as a critical access point for the Gillette community, allowing motorists to cross over the Burlington Northern Sante Fe railroad tracks spanning the city.
Recent studies, however, have shown the over-40-year-old structure is reaching the end of its anticipated useful life. Knowing this, the city, along with the Campbell County Commission and the Town of Wright, passed a joint resolution approving a ballot proposition for the 2024 General Election.
The ballot proposition seeks approval for a 1% specific-purpose excise tax to provide funding for three items, with Campbell County voters choosing which ones they want and which ones they don’t.
The Town of Wright is seeking $12 million for the Sagebluff Addition Project, the Campbell County Land Board is looking for nearly $208 million for a multi-use indoor arena at the CAM-PLEX and the city is looking for $30 million to replace the Gurley Overpass, per the city.
