C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, Sept. 18

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 17, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Drugs, Sept. 17, West McKenzie Road, CCSO

Deputies responded to West McKenzie Road and Centennial Drive at 8:30 a.m. to investigate a 59-year-old man’s trespassing report, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man said he attempted to stop a white 2006 Chevrolet that was trespassing on his property with his vehicle. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 34-year-old woman, drove around the man and struck his left shoulder with her driver’s-side mirror. A drug dog indicated on her vehicle after the woman was taken into custody and a search yielded misdemeanor amounts of methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia. The woman was charged with drug possession and criminal trespass.

Theft, Sept. 17, B Bar L Lane, CCSO

Reynolds said a 34-year-old man was cited for theft of services after deputies responded to B Bar L Lane to investigate reports of someone stealing electricity from a meter around 12:29 p.m. The man bypassed the meter and hooked cables up to the power source. He then routed power to a recreational vehicle where he was squatting. The cables were disconnected, and the man was cited for theft of services.

Drugs, Sept. 17, South Gurley Avenue, GPD

A 33-year-old man and a 27-year-old man were both cited for misdemeanor drug possession after an officer stopped their vehicle as part of a shoplifting investigation around 1:51 p.m. near South Gurley Avenue and East 12th Street, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. During the stop, the officer could smell marijuana, and both men admitted to recently smoking marijuana. A search yielded 1.5 grams and a THC vaping device. The 27-year-old man was identified as the suspect who stole a $50 bottle of tequila from a liquor store on South Douglas Highway. He was cited for shoplifting.

Suspicious activity, Sept. 17, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers responded to a department store on South Douglas Highway around 5:26 p.m. after a 33-year-old woman called to report a man followed her family throughout the store and attempted to talk to her 5-year-old daughter, Wasson said. The woman claimed the man hid behind aisles when she noticed him following them, though he ultimately denied all claims when officers spoke with him. The investigation is ongoing.
