C17 Crime Clips for Monday, Sept. 16

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette this past weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Dog bite, Sept. 13, West Granite Street, GPD

Officers responded to Campbell County Health, where a 10-year-old boy was receiving treatment for a dog bite, around 10:45 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The boy was reportedly bitten while walking to school and initially claimed the dog stuck its head through a fence. The investigation revealed the dog couldn’t get its head through a fence and it is believed the boy put his hand through it. The dog was current on its vaccinations and was allowed to quarantine at home.

Agency assist, Sept. 14, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Gillette police detectives responded to a truck stop on South Douglas Highway after a stolen vehicle was discovered around 8:38 a.m., Wasson said. Staff had called to report a 2012 Freightliner box truck with New Jersey registration had been parked on the lot for two weeks. The vehicle was found to be stolen out of Newark, and the investigation is ongoing.

Suspicious activity, Sept. 15, Kluver Road, GPD

A 71-year-old woman called the police at 10:45 a.m. to report four people had entered her fenced backyard on Kluver Road, Wasson said. The woman said her home was listed for sale and four people — two men and two women — entered her gate and looked through her windows. She told them to leave, but one woman reentered the backyard to look through the window again. The 71-year-old woman asked officers to identify the woman.

Drugs, Sept. 15, Brooks Avenue, CCSO

Deputies arrested an 18-year-old man for drug possession following a Sunday afternoon traffic stop near North Brooks Avenue and East Lincoln Street, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. During the stop, a police department drug dog indicated on the vehicle and a search yielded a capsule of THC liquid. Additionally, they found two 4-point deer antlers in velvet. At the request of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, deputies seized the antlers and took pictures of three firearms in the vehicle, one of them a .410 caliber revolver.

Drugs, Sept. 16, Highway 59, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old man for drug possession following a traffic stop on Highway 59 near Antelope Road around 2:32 a.m., Reynolds said. The men were in a 2008 Kia that passed a deputy at over 90 mph. During the stop, both men admitted to having THC. The 26-year-old man, the driver, was arrested for possessing THC wax, resin and liquid. The 25-year-old man, a passenger, was arrested for having THC liquid.
